Digg! Welcome back to the suck

We got back into civilisation at about 10:30 last night and tried to get ourselves back into a semi-normal state of mind.
The camper trailer is still parked in the driveway at some ridiculous angle (read: too tired to back in straight) and the car is still covered in Queenslands finest red dust and sand.
Now I am back in the daily grind I really miss the outdoors and the unknown of what is around the next corner. Just being able to wake up and point to somewhere on a map and go there without having to think about deadlines etc.

In the coming days I will post some of the photos of our trip and maybe go through the previous posts and insert some pictures of the things I was describing. We got some awesome and not so great photos but all of them are special memories to us now.

Digg! Day 12 Oasis to Desert to Mtn's to Ocean

We set out from our mountain hideaway this morning. a little sad but still happy to know we found a beautiful place that we will surely visit again.
10 kilometers into the trip down the mountain and we are into familiar territory, gravel road. A swift boot on the accelerator and we are through.
We reach the Bruce Highway and the familiar throng of traffic. Bit of a shock to the system when forced to stop by a little red light on a pole (traffic light i think they call it) anyway made our way down to Rainbow Beach. Aah the ocean, how i have missed thee!
Got a little knowledge from parks & wildlife (and i mean little) and sort forth for inskip point.
Little did know that about a thousand othe people had the same plan. An hour of looking and finally found our oasis.

Digg! Day 13 This is Heaven

Woke this morning to the most beautiful sound this morning. The ocean.
Got up the behold the sun rising over the ocean and glint from the golden sands of Fraser Island. So running with that theme we have spent the day under trees on the beach soaking up the atmosphere and somme rays.
What a perfect way to end a honeymoon/holiday.

Digg! Day 11 Toasting Marshmallows

Tonight it has been case of stoking the fire and hanging on to winter for as long as possible. Tonight i toasted marshmallows by the fire indoors for the first time ever.
So we started the day with a wander into the cold forest up here to check out some of the "falls". I use the term falls loosely for there wasn't a single drop of water at any of them. So we went to see rocks, formerly known as falls.
Anyhoo, along the way we came across, and nearly stepped on, the biggest man-eating harmless python you have ever seen. So being the great white hunters we are, we ran into the forest screaming!
We also had an amazing lunch to celebrate our first mon-iversary (month anniversary, Coopz word) Then to herald in the next phase of life we opened a bottle of red and told stories of our misadventures with wild carniverous reptiles in the wilds of Bunya.

So tomorrow it is time to head east young man & woman to camp on the beach.

Digg! Day 10 Bunya Bunyips

There are no bunyips but i thought it sounded cool!!
Spent most of the on the road again. Drove sout east from Cania Gorge to a stop in sunny Kingaroy. Huge country town and managed to get bailed up in Woolworths by a checkout chick selling raffle tickets who thought we were mad coming to Kingaroy instead of staying on the Gold Coast.
Then drove straight up the side of a mountain to get to Bunya. The Discovery had a battle but she did us proud.
So we are now enjoying a bottle of cabernet merlot and getting the fire going for a wonderful night in.

Digg! Day 9 1 month of marriage

It has been wonderful month of marriage and full of lots of adventure. Must be a sign of things to come!!!
For once it has rained here so we just enjoyed a day of lounging around and catching up on some sleep.
The rain has certainly made a difference. We are feeling the cold a 27 degree day. It sure as hell beats 41!

Digg! Day 6 Lord of the Flies

We have had enough of the flies and mozzies so we lasted one night in Salvator Rosa. Glad we went but probably not again.
Mid 30's to low 40's is not a comfortable temperature and "river" gave no relief. The Nogoa River is obviously a remnant of a time before the drought, however it is just a trickle now.

Anyway off to Cania Gorge for a real shower and plan the next move.

Digg! Welcome to paradise

We r now well & truly hooking into a steady stream of wine & beer. I feel like we're @ a 21st with beer, wine & basic spirits.

Arrived in Takarraka about 1pm and quickly set up camp. Lots of people here for some reason. It has certainly become a national, & international, past time.

The opportunities to meet interesting, & weird, people is limitless in such an environment. Right now there is a large group of adventure seekers having a party!!

Sorry got drinks to drink and weird people to meet.

Digg! Day 4 Lots of gorging

Well, the temp has been at a healthy height if mid 30's for the past 2 days. So there was nothing else to do except run to the rock pool and remedy the heat problem.
Yesterday it was time to climd the bluff and we weren't disappointed at all!! Magnificent views from here to eternity.
Today was a chance experience Carnarvon Gorge all over again. We trekked in as far as Wards Canyon and took in cool surroundings. Then we were off to the moss garden to once again enjoy a break from the heat.

So here we sit with drink in hand saying goodbye to another perfect day.

Digg! Day 5 Disneyland

We set off today in search of an adventure. Mickey's Creek Gorge the destination. It was like Disneyland but no Mickey. Is there a Disney character of a snake? A small brown snake halted our adventure quite a way up the gorge but still a lot of fun.
To top things off, it is 750 at night and an echidna just strolled into our camp, had a look around, and off he went on his merry way.

So tomorrow we are off to Salvator Rosa for stage 2 of phase 2 of our honeymoon. Whale watching in Hervey Bay was great but this more fun.

So next post will be from a remote camp in the middle of nowhere. Can't wait!!

Digg! Day 2 Carnarvon

We rbon our way to Carnarvon Gorge. Beautiful day, not a cloud in sight, 26 degrees. I had a lousy nights sleep but nothing different there. Found out how your fuel efficiency goes right out the window with a trailer but got plenty of spare fuel on board.
Well gotta go and hit the frog and toad again.

Digg! Day 1 Roma

6.5 hour drive & here we are!! hpme of qld's largest Boab tree. That's right it's Roma!! So time for a beer i say. I'll post more when rested

Digg! 1000 ways to open a beer

There are a LOT of ways to open a beer and this little bit of youtube footage shows a few.
However there seems to a complete lack of air-tight seal on any of the beers displayed in the flick. I am sure your guests would "oohh" and "aahh" at the prowess you display in opening the beverage but because the lid came off so easily surely this would show a flat beer.
Any way you be the judge ;) .....
